Knights of the Old Republic and Canon

For this post in my latest series examining aspects of a work that have found their way into canon, I decided to look at Knights of the Old Republic and some of its related media, one of the most popular works in Legends.

  • Locations:
    • Rakata Prime, the last planet that you visit in the original game, appeared on the map of the galaxy in the The Force Awakens Visual Dictionary. The name “Lehon” for the planet was mentioned in one of the Choose Your Destiny Mini-Missions, which also alludes to the Rakata having been the ones to make Tatooine a desert.
    • Taris has popped up in a wide number of sources and senators for it in three different eras have appeared in film and TV. Aftermath alluded to the devastation of the planet from the game.
    • Naturally, Malachor from the second game and its status as an ancient Jedi/Sith battleground was a big part of Rebels.
    • The Selkath appeared in The Clone Wars and their history as pacifists was also mentioned. Manaan was given as their homeworld in Alien Archive, and a criminal syndicate led by a Selkath in Return to Vader’s Castle was named the Firaxan Syndicate after the shark species in the game.
    • The planet Ordo, home to Canderous Ordo, was mentioned in Scum & Villainy as the original home of Dryden Vos’s rally master lance (another pull from the game).
    • Telos, from the second game, got a mention in Catalyst.
    • Sleheyron, a planet you were meant to visit in the game until it was cut though mentions are still present, has been mentioned in a couple of reference books and is the homeworld of Ziro the Hutt.
  • Creatures:
    • Terentateks and their presence on Kashyyyk was mentioned in The Clone Wars. They’ve gotten a couple visual depictions in publishing, most notably a full illustration in Smuggler’s Guide.
    • The pesky gizka were alluded to in Aftermath: Empire’s End.
    • The Kath hounds of Dantooine were mentioned in Phasma.
    • Kinrath were going to appear on Kashyyyk in an unproduced episode of The Clone Wars. They were also mentioned in Join the Resistance: Escape from Vodran.
    • The Sith tuk’ata have been mentioned a couple of times but recently got a full appearance on Korriban/Moraband in the Galaxy’s Edge comic.
    • The shyrack were mentioned as a cave dwelling species in Adventures in Wild Space.
    • The monkey-like tach can be seen on Kashyyyk in Battlefront II.
    • The zakkeg from the second game were mentioned in the Commander mobile game.
  • The Hammerhead cruiser was adapted into a corvette for use in Rebels before getting a full, memorable onscreen appearance in Rogue One.
  • Pazaak has been referenced in too many books to list, remaining one of the most notable in-universe games in Star Wars.
  • Cantina music from the game has shown up a number of times in Resistance. The show also has a T3 droid similar to the one you get in the game. The model has shown up in a couple other places and the new edition of Ultimate Star Wars references that it’s an ancient design.
  • The Sith Code written for the game has been quoted in The Clone Wars and Rebels in addition to a couple mentions in publishing.
  • “Meatbags” remains a classic part of the Star Wars lexicon and it even seems that some of HK’s programming was present in Mr Bones from the Aftermath trilogy. HK-model droids also appear, including an illustration, in Smuggler’s Guide.
  • The Iridian Plague mentioned in the game was recently mentioned to have been cured by the Tah’Nuhna in Allegiance.
  • The Czerka Corporation wasn’t actually created for the game but the game’s use is probably what bolstered it to the place it’s in now so it’s worth noting that they’ve had a number of appearances in canon, including as a primary antagonist in Master & Apprentice, which alludes to it being centuries old.
  • The Mandalorian Neo-Crusader helmet from the game can be seen in a Trandoshan trophy room in The Clone Wars. The Mandalorian Wars are also part of the backstory from Mandalore in both The Clone Wars and Rebels, among other mentions. According the Aliens of the Galaxy, during the Mandalorian Crusades from the game the Mandalorians devastated Ubduria.
  • The The Last Jedi Visual Dictionary says that Luke possesses a Jedi Crusader pendant. Jedi Crusader was one of the names for Revan’s followers.
  • The Mass Shadow Generator from the sequel got an appearance as a rumored superweapon in The Rebel Files.
  • Dryden’s collection in Solo contains a Rakatan wraith box per the film’s Visual Guide, a pull from The Old Republic.
  • Jaffkee, a Coruscant police officer from The Old Republic, has a Coruscant police precinct named after him in Dooku: Jedi Lost.
  • The Galaxy’s Edge Datapad contains a mention of a Tun’sa Nem’ro, presumably a descendant of Suudaa Nem’ro from The Old Republic.
  • The Kalikori from Rebels is named after a Twi’lek village in The Old Republic.
  • The Sith war droid introduced in The Old Republic has a cameo in the Darth Vader comic.
  • The Sith symbol from The Old Republic has popped up in a couple places, including the Lando comic.

That’s everything I know of. This is definitely an incomplete list because it’s a popular source to draw from so let me know if you think of any that I didn’t.

I like Star Wars. And Marvel too, to a lesser degree.

  1. I love all those connections, I recently started a star war channel but from Latin America, I would love to use this information for a video, obviously with your permission and talk about this blog too.
